Message from Brian Southers – Founder

My dad’s grandfather was a shepherd who, in the long hours on the Southern Utah mountain, worked with leather to pass the time. As the years passed, Grandpa Heaton’s simple, creative musings became stunning saddles known for both their grace and utility. On the other side of the family tree, my mom’s grandfather was a miner in Butte Montana who worked with the, then, cutting edge technology of copper mining. Not only did Grandpa Hanna’s work assist in propelling the mining industry into success in the western United States, he also was able to provide for his family through his grit and constant hard work.     

Through the generations of my kin, it seems Grandpa Heaton’s and Grandpa Hanna’s genes have made their way to me. I, like my grandfathers before me, see the importance of making things that last. Their examples have helped me see elegance in the forgotten and energy in the antique. The passion and excitement of creation that they fostered now lives on through my work at Concrete Shop West. As they created legacies that lasted for generations, so everything produced by Concrete Shop West is designed and built for increased beauty over time.
